March is Poison Prevention Month!
Here at Park Gate Animal and Bird Hospital in North Vancouver BC, March is Poison Prevention Month. That means in addition to supplying you with helpful information and tips, we are also offering a FREE exam to any and all who suspect a poisoning with their pet.
Not quite sure what a poisoning would look like? Well, it may look like this:
– Shaking
– Seizures
– Mobility issues (twitching, stumbling, swaying, weaving)
– Excessive thirst and/or urination
– Vomiting (with or without blood)
– Panting
– Sedation/Lethargy
– Halitosis (bad breath)
– Difficulty breathing
– Pale gums
– Coughing (especially of blood)
– Bloody nose
– Swelling or bumps on the skin (e.g., hematomas)
– Collapse
– Bleeding from the gums
– Death
– Drooling
– Diarrhea
– Abdominal pain
– Elevated heart rate and respiratory rate
– Exercise intolerance
– Collapse
The list goes on as per the poison. If you notice any of these symptoms call us IMMEDIATELY! If you are a great distance from an animal clinic or animal emergency, you may get your pet to drink a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, and be ready for them to vomit. This will only work if the pet has ingested the poison recently (before 8 hours) so use caution.
