May 3rd was National Specially-abled Pets Day! This celebrates all the wonderful disabled and special needs pets in need of finding a forever home. Although, physically challenged these animals are fully able to love! They are just waiting for the perfect family to find them!
Animal Rescue Advocate, Colleen Paige, created the day to celebrate “pets that become challenged due to disease, birth flaws or injuries, tend to develop greater senses than your average pet. Most of the time, it’s as if they never had to readjust to life…and we need to keep up with them!”
Many of these pets are surrendered due to the special care they require, and their owners are unable to care for them properly. Traditionally, these incredible pets are harder to adopt. In some cases, these animals can take four times as long to adopt.
